IRS Extends Deadline for IRA SECURE 2.0 Amendments

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued Notice 2026-09 (the Notice), extending the deadline to complete amendments under the SECURE 2.0 Act for individual retirement arrangements (IRAs). The Notice indicates that the deadline to make amendments for IRAs, SEP arrangements, and SIMPLE IRA plans is now December 31, 2027. The previous deadline as extended by Notice 2024-02 was no later than December 31, 2026. The Department of Treasury and IRS indicate they are still developing model language that may be used to amend these IRA arrangements.
