Aronowitz Confirmed as Assistant Secretary of Labor for EBSA
The Senate has confirmed Daniel Aronowitz as Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) as part of a slate of nominees by a 51 to 47 vote. Mr. Aronowitz was nominated by President Trump on February 11, 2025.
During opening remarks to the Senate HELP Committee at his nomination hearing, Mr. Aronowitz highlighted the following three goals in leading the EBSA.
- Improve EBSA’s enforcement of fiduciary law by ending the practice of open-ended investigations, ending the bias against ESOPs, and ending the practice of common-interest agreements with plaintiff lawyers.
- Provide regulatory clarity, including modernizing defined contribution plans to include alternative investments, consideration of ESG factors, the fiduciary rule as applied to IRA rollovers, plan forfeitures, pension risk transfers, and cybersecurity to protect participant assets.
- Champion the cause of encouraging plan sponsors to expand retirement benefits to workers.
