House Proposal Would Expand 529 Use

Rep. Kevin Hern, (R-OK), and three Republican co-sponsors have introduced HR 8915, the Education and Workforce Freedom Act. The bill would expand the definition of qualified higher education expenses to include additional elementary, secondary, and home school expenses such as books and curriculum materials, tutoring, fees for placement exams, and educational therapies for students with disabilities. The proposal would also add certain postsecondary credentialing expenses as qualified education expenses. Any progress on this legislation will be monitored and developments shared.
