Proposal Would Expand HSA Eligibility, Usage

Senator Doc Marshall (R-KS) has introduced S. 4353, the Health Savings Account Expansion Act. According to a press release, the bill would do the following. 

  • Expand HSA eligibility to people on Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP.
  • Expand HSA eligibility to all plans that have a deductible above a certain amount, regardless of other factors.
  • Allow a person to pay for their insurance premium with HSA funds.
  • Allow a person to pay their health care sharing ministry expenses with HSA funds.

The bill has been referred to the Senate Finance Committee for further consideration.
