David Musto

Executive Chairman

David Musto is Executive Chairman of Ascensus, serving as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer, management team, and Board of Directors, with a focus on growth initiatives, corporate and business development, and government relations. With more than 35 years of experience in the retirement, investment, and insurance industries, David has dedicated his career to advocating for American savers while enhancing business performance and driving growth. He joined Ascensus as President in 2017, served as CEO from 2020 through 2025, and in 2021, was named Chair of the Ascensus Board. On January 1, 2026, David transitioned to the role of Executive Chairman. Before Ascensus, David served as President of Great-West Investments and held key leadership roles at J.P. Morgan, including CEO of J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services and Managing Director of J.P. Morgan Defined Contribution Investment Solutions. His career also includes senior positions at Prudential Financial, CIGNA, and Kamoon, a financial software start-up. He is proud to serve as Vice Chair of the Advancement Committee on the William & Mary Business School Foundation Board and has previously chaired the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA). He also served on the boards of SageView, a leading retirement and wealth advisory firm, and the Society of Professional Asset-Managers and Recordkeepers (SPARK). David holds a master’s degree in finance and international business from NYU’s Stern School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in finance from The College of William & Mary.
